We’re Back!

July31

Our last night of the trip was spent in the excellent Rattle ‘n’ Hum
bar where we met Eric, a chef and all round great guy from New Jersey,
who bought us a drink and restored our faith in American beer. We
promised him he’d get a mention on the blog, so here it is!

Then it was our last sleep and off to our last flight.

Our trip back to the UK was really easy and was further improved by
our free upgrade to a limo from Manhattan to the airport. We managed
to get a little bit of sleep on the plane but we were excited to get
home and see everyone. As another bonus we had both sets of parents
meet us as a surprise when expecting just Ben’s which was lovely.

We have spent the day getting to know our adorable nephews and have
managed to stay awake and fight the jetlag by drinking proper tea,
pints of beer and going out for a curry.

It’s great to be home!

Many thanks to all of you who commented and emailed while we were
away. It was great to hear from you all and we look forward to seeing
y’all soon.

Our last full day

July29

Well it had to arrive eventually, the last full day of our trip!

We headed out this morning to the Museum of Modern Art which had a
huge collection of some of the world’s most famous paintings and after
our trip across the states we couldn’t resist using the photo below
for this post.

After MoMA we did a spot of last minute shopping and then walked
through the torrential rain to the International Centre of
Photography, which turned out to be a bit small and disapointing. We
made up for it by taking the advice from the comments and having some
delicious cupcakes from the Magnolia Bakery ๐Ÿ™‚

We’re now off to our favourite bar for some beers before a slice of
NYC pizza. See y’all soon!!

The Daily Show, starring us!!!

July29

So we had big plans today and did most of them.

We started off with a big plate of pancakes and fruit and then took
the subway to Battery Park in Downtown where we were going to get the
Staten Island ferry but it was too busy. Instead we had a look at the
Brooklyn Bridge and walked down Wall Street.

From there we walked North to see the firehouse where Ghostbusters
was filmed. The fireman even let Jen go to the loo in there – an
excellent claim to fame!! From there it was another subway ride up to
Washington Square Park for a cool down in the shade while people
played chess and scrabble around us.

We stopped for a quick lunch in a tiny Italian cafe in Greenwich
Village where we checked emails before we were going to head over to
the Lower East Side to the Tenement Museum. However, we recieved an
email from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart which Ben had applied for
us to see filming because we watch it at home and are big fans. We had
tickets and so had to rush Uptown to the studio and queue in the heat
for a couple of hours but we made it in and it was great. Even better,
his guest was Spinal Tap!!

Anyone who wants to watch it in the UK, it should be on More4 tomorrow
(29th) at about 7pm (we think). Note to parents: can someone please
record it for us if poss? For info we are on the very back row of the
audience and Jen has a striped blue and white top on as per photo.

We’re now celebrating with beer in Hooters!

Joining the Tourists

July27

Today we headed straight to the top Rockefeller Centre for great views
across Manhattan.

Then it was on to the NBC studio tour, the Chrysler Building and Grand
Central Station before picking up some new flip-flops for Jen.

Tonight we were going to watch ‘The Defiant Ones’ in Bryant Park, but
a storm has blown in so a night in a bar is more likely.
